Local pastor, Rev. Bob Johnson, has shaken things up in his town by defying a widely supported move to help fasting Muslims during Ramadan. Instead, Rev. Johnson and his flock changed their clocks on Sunday, in what some are calling a “hilarious and absurd” act of rebellion.
“I mean, who needs to help out our Muslim brothers and sisters when we can just mess with time?” said Johnson, chuckling. “It’s like a little prank, but with clocks instead of whoopee cushions.”
The move has sparked outrage among some in the community, with many calling Johnson and his congregation “ignorant” and “disrespectful.”
“I just can’t believe they would do this,” said local Muslim resident, Ahmed Ali. “We’re already dealing with enough this Ramadan, and now we have to deal with people messing with time too? It’s just ridiculous.”
Johnson insists that the decision to change their clocks was not meant to be offensive, but rather a lighthearted way to bring some levity to an otherwise tense situation.
“We’re not trying to upset anyone with this,” he said. “We just thought it would be funny. And honestly, I think it was. I mean, who doesn’t love a good prank?”
It remains to be seen whether the Christian authorities in other areas will follow in Johnson’s footsteps and change their clocks in defiance of the move to help fasting Muslims. But for now, the town of Springville is buzzing with talk of Johnson’s “clock prank,” and the controversy shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
