In a shocking move, Carnival Barker CEO Bob Jester has announced the first round of layoffs this week as part of a major restructuring plan that will affect up to 7,000 circus clowns.

“We hate to do this, but the circus business has been struggling for a while now,” Jester said in a statement. “We have to cut costs if we want to keep the big top standing.”

The news has caused an uproar among the clowns, who are famous for their bright red noses, exaggerated makeup, and floppy shoes.

“I can’t believe they’re laying off so many of us,” said Chuckles the Clown. “We’re the lifeblood of this business!”

Some clowns are taking the news in stride, however.

“Well, I guess it’s time to dust off the old resume and start looking for a new gig,” said Bubbles the Clown. “Maybe I’ll try my hand at stand-up comedy or something.”

The layoffs are expected to hit hardest in the juggling and balloon-animal-making departments.

“We’re really going to miss those guys,” said Jester. “But we have to do what we have to do. The show must go on!”
