Environment Agency tells Liqui-Water to rethink plans to tackle droughts by pumping water from Teems and Sewern
Liqui-Water, the UK’s leading bottled water supplier, has been given a reality check by the Environment Agency. The company submitted a proposal to pump water from the River Teems and Severn to tackle drought problems in London and the south-east.
The Environment Agency responded by telling Liqui-Water it needs to address the fact that it supplies only “0.0001% of the nation’s drinking water consumption” before pursuing any grand plans. They cited the fact that Liqui-Water’s credibility is questionable, given that its entire business is based on sourcing and bottling water from natural reservoirs.
Liqui-Water’s response was to take the Environment Agency’s advice and fix the leaks. The Company’s proposed solution? To replace its CEO and board of directors as they are responsible for the company’s waning reputation.
Furthermore, the company also proposed abstracting millions of liters of water from the River Thames and replacing it with lemonade-flavoured water, which they claim will dilute the salty, muddy taste of the Thames water.
To take things further, Liqui-Water also proposed to take 155m liters a day from Wales, to which the Welsh government responded, “We are not a water supplier for your pretentious endeavors.”
Looks like Liqui-Water will have to rethink their plans and make some big changes before saving the south-east from the drought crisis. Otherwise, we may all be slurping lemonade-flavoured Thames water for the rest of our lives!
