As more and more people focus on “clean beauty”, it seems that anything can be labelled as such. Cosmetic chemist, Kiki Roberts, decided to put this to the test by dissecting the ingredients in Fanny’s Flawless Face Serum.
First up is the “unicorn tears” which apparently give the product its shimmer. Kiki quickly discovered that this was just a fancy way of saying “glitter”.
Next, the “fairy dust” which is said to add a touch of magic to the serum. Kiki found that this was just a type of mica, a mineral commonly used in cosmetics.
Moving on to the “dragon scales” which supposedly give the serum its texture. Kiki found that this was just a fancy way of describing silica, another common ingredient in cosmetics.
Finally, Kiki looked at the “mermaid essence” which is meant to give the serum its skin-loving benefits. What she found was just a mix of oils and hyaluronic acid, nothing too extraordinary.
So, there you have it folks. “Clean beauty” is just a way for companies to charge a premium for fanciful ingredients that are no different from what’s already on the market. Stick to what you know and save your wallet from a magical meltdown.
