Local authorities were left scratching their heads after a devastating shooting left five people dead and eight injured, but the police chief remained tight-lipped about any potential motives.
When asked about the possibility of a motive, Chief Johnson simply shrugged and mumbled something about needing to refill his coffee cup.
Sources close to the investigation say that the chief’s lack of information is not surprising, given his recent obsession with a new donut shop that opened up down the street.
“He’s been spending all his time there,” said one officer on the condition of anonymity. “I don’t think he’s even taken a break to look at the evidence.”
Others speculate that the chief may be using the donut shop as a way to cope with the stress of the job.
“He’s always been a bit of a stress eater,” said a former colleague. “But this is next level. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts showing up to work in a powdered sugar-covered uniform.”
While the search for a motive continues, residents of the town are taking precautions in case the shooter strikes again. Some have even taken to wearing bulletproof vests to the grocery store.
But Chief Johnson remains optimistic. “I always say, a donut a day keeps the bullets away,” he said with a wink.
And with that, he headed back to the donut shop, leaving his team to puzzle over the evidence on their own.
