Investors Lost Their Minds After First Republic Bank Goes Belly-Up

It’s official: the banking industry is in the dumps. The collapse of First Republic Bank sent shockwaves through the market, causing numerous midsize lenders to crumble like a house of cards. To put it simply, investors lost their minds.

The news was especially devastating for the chairman of Greedy Bank, who was heard weeping uncontrollably in his office. “How am I supposed to afford my fourth yacht now?” he lamented.

Not to be outdone, the CEO of Moneybags Bank expressed utter disbelief at the turn of events. “This just goes to show that even a little thing like losing billions of dollars can really bring down a bank,” he said.

Meanwhile, the CFO of Swindler Bank was frantically trying to convince anyone who would listen that his bank was still a safe bet. “We don’t follow the norm of actually giving out loans, so we’re clearly immune to this kind of thing,” he explained.

But it seems the general consensus among investors is to start hoarding their money under their mattresses. “I’m not taking any chances,” said one jittery stockholder. “I’ve already started investing in Beanie Babies.”

As for the industry’s future, it’s uncertain at best. All we know for sure is that the big dogs better watch out – if a tiny bank like First Republic can bring down the whole system, who’s to say what’s next?
