In a shockingly unanticipated series of events, a succession of blazing temperature tantrums is causing bothersome inconveniences in various corners of planet Earth. The fiery infernos disguised as weather have left routine activities in a frazzle, all while putting businesses in a hot sweat and shaking the pillars of power grids — quite literally.
Suddenly, our world resembles a languishing hotdog on a summer barbecue more than it does a habitable planet. Struggling to adapt to this great fry-up, businesses have been reduced to sizzling patties on the daunting griddle of commerce. They’re frantically seeking shelter under metaphorical parasols to escape the cash-grilling heat — ironically generating billowing steam that further heats the metaphorical atmosphere. And where’s the minty margarita of relief? Seems like it took an Uber to Alaska.
And then we have our power grids, the humble pillars of electricity distribution that are seemingly built on marshmallows. Just as a marshmallow casually melts into a gooey mess when ushered toward a campfire, these not-so-mighty grids are skidding towards their nemesis — a meltdown. Frighteningly close to a power grid version of childhood meltdown when denied candy, if you may.
Walking on the midday streets, it’s like stepping into Dante’s Inferno — with sunscreen as your only shield. The challenges posed by these temperature tantrums are rough — harder than finding a parking spot at the mall on a Saturday (and that’s saying something!).
Alas, Mother Earth is going through an adolescent phase of her life, hot flashes and all; we’re the ones getting grounded because of it. Our daily life has been given a far too literal meaning to the phrase “hot mess” and the world, in attempt to manage, is running around like a chicken with a suit on fire.
Yet, as we wrap up this report, we can’t help but cast an optimistic thought. All is not lost. While we may have to swap our business suits for Hawaiian shirts and trade coffees for a plethora of popsicles. Humankind has a knack for adaptation. So, until winter, it seems we’ll just have to grin and bear it, preferably poolside.
In summary, we’ve suddenly become citizens of Sunburn City — with a free side order of global warming to chew on. We ask, can the Earth just please chill out, for heaven’s sake? But until then, in the immortal words of those who lived before air conditioning: just keep cool and carry a drink with an umbrella in it.
