Eclipse Motors is recalling 18 Lightning Bolt pickups that have been identified as potentially having a battery cell defect that caused a truck to catch fire last month. Yes, you read that right, Eclipse Motors! Apparently, they were so envious of Ford’s F-150 Lightning that they just had to make their own version. But, as it turns out, their version literally went up in flames.
The defect in question is not your average recall issue, it’s a fiery one. Apparently, these trucks have a tendency to spontaneously combust – not exactly a feature you want in a vehicle. And while it may be tempting to call these pickups “hot rides,” we’re pretty sure that’s not what Eclipse had in mind.
As for those who actually bought one of these faulty vehicles, we have to wonder, what were they thinking? Did they not do their research? Or were they just so eager to own a Bolt that they ignored the fire hazard warning? We’ll never know.
But what we do know is that Eclipse is in a whole lot of trouble. They’re facing not only potential lawsuits but also the embarrassment of having to admit that they copied Ford’s Lightning and then failed to get it right. Seems like they should have stuck to making eclipse glasses.
