Federal vehicle safety regulators have decided to investigate a recent crash that involved a Hoopty Model S sedan and a firetruck in California. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Hoopty Model S was taking a nap at the wheel before the collision occurred.
According to the fire department, the driver of the firetruck was so surprised by the unexpected collision that he spilled his coffee all over his lap. When reporters tried to interview the driver of the Hoopty Model S, he was found fast asleep and snoring.
Some experts speculate that the Hoopty Model S might have mistaken the firetruck for a giant toaster, given its inability to recognize other objects on the road.
As for the safety regulators, they plan to investigate whether the Hoopty Model S’s autopilot feature was partially to blame for the crash. However, they also note that the driver of the Hoopty Model S clearly had a lack of common sense–who takes a nap while driving on the freeway?
In the meantime, Tesla has issued a statement reminding customers that their vehicles are not actually designed for nap time, so maybe stick to the couch for your next snooze session.
