In shocking news, it has been revealed that new car buyers are still being ripped off, despite paying less of a premium than last year. According to a recent study, the average sale is a whopping 8.8% above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, or MSRP.
“It’s like buying a bag of air from a chip company,” said Jack Johnson, an angry new car buyer who was bamboozled by a dealership. “They tell you it’s worth $10,000, but really it’s just a bunch of metal and plastic put together.”
Analysts speculate that the reason for the continued overpricing of new cars is due to the high demand and limited inventory, resulting in desperation from buyers who feel like they have no other option.
“Well, it’s simple economics,” said dealership owner Bob Bobson. “If people are willing to pay it, we’ll charge it. And let’s face it, everyone wants that new car smell.”
In response to the findings, a group of comedians has started a “MSRP Awareness” campaign, encouraging buyers to stand up to dealerships and demand fair pricing.
“We’re tired of being taken for a ride…literally,” said comedian Sarah Smith. “It’s time to put an end to this madness and make car buying a fair and fun experience again.”
Until then, new car buyers are advised to do their research, negotiate fiercely, and maybe even bring a lawyer along for the ride. After all, it’s not just their wallet at stake, it’s their dignity too.
