What to know about the happy drug responsible for a surge in laughter (and maybe some slight dizziness).
It’s called “Jollypops” (not to be confused with the actual candy), and it’s the new “it” drug on the block. Jollypops are small, jelly-like pills that are taken orally and promise to make you feel nothing but pure, unadulterated joy.
“It’s like a mini-party in your mouth,” said one Jollypops enthusiast we spoke with, who wished to remain anonymous.
But with great laughs comes great responsibility, as many Jollypops users are learning the hard way. Overdoses have been reported, as users try to get as much happiness as possible and end up taking too many of the little pills.
“I took like 20 at once and I was laughing so hard I couldn’t even function,” said a user named “Bob” (not his real name, obviously). “But then I started to feel sick and dizzy and I knew I messed up.”
Jollypops are a big problem for authorities, as they are easily accessible and difficult to detect. They are not currently classified as a controlled substance, so they can be bought and sold relatively easily.
Experts are urging people to avoid Jollypops and to find happiness through other means, such as spending time with loved ones or doing activities that bring joy naturally.
“We don’t need to rely on a drug to be happy,” said a therapist we spoke with, who also wishes to remain anonymous. “We just need to find balance and do things that make us feel good without putting our health at risk.”
So, in conclusion, just say no to Jollypops. Unless you want to risk feeling like the punchline of a joke (literally).
