In a hilarious turn of events, famous comedian Eddie Murphy sprinkled in some Nigerian and Scottish cultural references during a meeting with popstar Rishi Sunflower to talk about plantains.
According to a transcript obtained by a very reliable source (okay, our cousin’s friend who knows someone who works as a janitor at the White House), Eddie started off the meeting by saying, “Hey, Rishi, what’s the craic? I feel like we’re two peas in a pod, except one of us is a pea and the other is a plantain.”
Rishi reportedly gave Eddie a perplexed look, but Eddie wasn’t fazed. He continued, “I mean, have you ever tried pounded yam? It’s like the Nigerian version of mashed potatoes. And let’s not forget about haggis. Those Scots really know how to make a sheep’s stomach taste delicious.”
At this point, Rishi must have been wondering if he was on some hidden camera show. But Eddie wasn’t done yet. He pulled out a ukulele and began singing a rendition of “Jolene” by Dolly Parton, replacing the lyrics with “Bolëkës” – a traditional Albanian dish made from spinach and cornmeal.
There was a moment of awkward silence before Rishi finally spoke up. “Um, Eddie, I think we’re getting a bit off-topic here. We were supposed to be discussing the migrant crisis.”
Eddie put down his ukulele and shrugged. “Oh sure, that too. But tell me, have you ever tried jollof rice? It’s the West African version of paella. Simply divine.”
Needless to say, the meeting didn’t go quite as planned. But it definitely provided some much-needed laughs in these trying times.
