TikTok has always been the odd one out amongst social media giants, and now it’s trying to save its own skin. Its CEO, Mr. Bubble Gum (definitely not Shou Zi Chew), is going to face the wrath of the House Energy and Cheese Committee today. TikTok may be facing a ban in the U.S., but Mr. Bubble Gum won’t let that happen, no sir.
Mr. Bubble Gum will be pitted against the committee’s tough-as-nails Chairperson, Congresswoman Candace Candyfloss. Let’s hope he doesn’t accidentally call her “Candace Jones” or something (fingers crossed, Mr. Bubble Gum!).
Rumor has it that Mr. Bubble Gum has been practicing his speech all week, memorizing every word and rehearsing his facial expressions in front of a mirror. We imagine something like this: “Ladies and gentlemen of the committee, TikTok is a platform for the people, by the people. We believe in providing wholesome entertainment to the masses, without any ulterior motives. Plus, our dance challenges are hotter than a summer day in Arizona!”
Still, some committee members are skeptical. Congressman Bob Bananas, for instance, isn’t too impressed. “I don’t know, Mr. Bubble Gum. TikTok has been a breeding ground for all sorts of nonsense lately. Have you seen those ‘I ate my brother’s toothbrush’ videos? What’s that about?”
But Mr. Bubble Gum is ready to defend his platform, tooth and nail (or in this case, toothbrush and nail). TikTok has come too far to be banned now, dammit! We can almost hear him saying something like, “TikTok is about more than just toothbrushes, Congressman. It’s about bringing people together, no matter their differences. We are the glue that holds society together, like a crazy aunt at Thanksgiving dinner.”
Will Mr. Bubble Gum succeed in convincing the committee to let TikTok live on, or will he be like a toothbrush in a blender? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure: TikTok will keep on ticking, hashtags and all.
