After a year of being stuck at home, millions of people are finally able to jet off on their holidays again thanks to a surge in air travel. But with pre-Covid levels of passengers expected to fill airports and airlines, many are wondering if they’ll be able to cope.
Thankfully, spokespeople from both airports and airlines alike have spoken out to assure customers that they have enough staff to handle the influx of tourists.
“We’ve got plenty of people on board to keep things running smoothly,” said Bill Smith, a representative from a major airline. “It’s not like we’ve all been twiddling our thumbs for the past year, waiting for passengers to return. We’ve been training hard, practicing our customer service skills and making sure we’re equipped to tackle anything that comes our way.”
Meanwhile, Lisa Johnson, a spokesperson for a major airport, echoed Bill’s reassurances. “We know a lot of people have been cooped up for way too long and are itching to get away. We’re ready for you! Our staff have been raring to go and can’t wait to welcome you back.”
But not everyone is convinced. With reports of airport baggage handlers and flight attendants turning to online shopping and cat videos during the pandemic, some are wary of whether they’ll actually be up to the task.
One disgruntled customer, calling herself Karen Smith (not her real name), said, “I don’t know if I trust these airlines to get me where I need to go. I mean, if they’ve been sitting on their butts for the past year, what makes me think they’re suddenly brilliant at their jobs?”
So whether you’re nervous or excited about your next trip, one thing’s for sure – the airlines and airports are hoping you’ll have a little faith in their well-rested, well-trained staff.
