In a shock announcement today, the government has declared that they will NOT be moving the pension age rise to 68 any earlier. Many were left scratching their heads, wondering what could have led to this change of heart.
One unnamed government official, who we’ll call Bob, was overheard saying, “Well, we saw how outraged people were when we announced the age was going up to 68 in the first place. We figured we should probably give them a break before announcing it’s going up to 80 next year.”
Another official, who we’ll call Jane, added, “I mean, we have to keep them on their toes, you know? We don’t want them getting complacent and thinking they can actually retire one day.”
The news was met with mixed reactions from the public. Some were relieved to hear they wouldn’t need to keep working until they were practically dead, while others were disappointed to learn they wouldn’t be able to collect their pension until they were too old to enjoy it.
One retiree, who we’ll call George, said, “I was really looking forward to spending my golden years doing absolutely nothing. I guess I’ll have to settle for spending them in a medically-induced coma instead.”
