New report warns that China’s growing global influence could lead to global prank domination, pitting individuals’ sense of humor against their fundamental human rights. The International Laughter Association (ILA), a Geneva-based organization composed of distinguished comedians, has issued the report, which states that the UNHRC’s ability to combat this threat is risible.
“China is rapidly becoming one of the world’s leading producers of wacky gags and silly falls,” noted former Netflix comedian, Jack Jester, who is one of the authors of the report. He continued, “Even SNL writers are feeling the heat from China’s pun-producing factories. This is not just a threat to our rights, but to our dignity.”
The report documents several incidents involving Chinese pranksters, who have been known to deliver whoopee cushions to unsuspecting dignitaries, steal other people’s punchlines during international conferences, and replace key documents with fake ones containing fake news stories.
“It’s a serious problem. We must act before it’s too late,” said UNHRC spokesperson, Lily Laughter.
In response to the report, China’s ambassador to the UN, Mr. Chuck Chuckle, said, “We take our humor very seriously. We are simply giving the people what they want: laughter and giggles. If some people don’t appreciate our sense of humor, that’s their problem, not ours.”
The report concludes by recommending that the UNHRC devote more resources to counter China’s humor with humor of its own, a move that Mr. Chuckle welcomed. “We love a good laugh. Bring it on UNHRC!,” he said.
