LONDON – Sad news hit the British Parliament earlier this week when it was announced that the legendary Baroness Bubblegum, a beloved former Commons Speaker, passed away at the ripe age of 93.
Bubblegum, who was known for her sharp wit and infectious personality, served as Speaker from 1992 to 2000 and was lauded for her ability to keep rowdy Members of Parliament in check.
The news of her passing has left those who knew her well saddened and in disbelief. “She was the heart and soul of this place,” said MP Sir Fancypants. “I can’t believe she’s gone.”
But despite the somber tone, there were moments of levity as MPs and staffers reminisced about their favorite memories of Bubblegum. “I remember this one time she made a joke about my tie and I knew right then that we were going to be friends,” said junior minister Lady Lollipops.
Bubblegum’s legacy will live on, as will her famous catchphrase “Order! Order!” which can still be heard echoing through the halls of Parliament.
The Baroness will be sorely missed, but her spirit and humor will continue to inspire those who carry on in her footsteps. As one MP put it, “She was one of a kind. We’ll never see the likes of her again.”
