Reverend Rick, the leader of a small religious cult, has been arrested for allegedly encouraging his followers to starve themselves in order to “meet Jesus”. In a disturbing turn of events, the preacher apparently believed that by depriving themselves of food, his flock would be able to transcend this earthly plane and ascend to heaven.
The group, which called themselves the “Hungry for Heaven” sect, had been following Rick’s teachings for months. At first, they were told to fast for short periods of time, with Rick insisting that it would bring them closer to God. However, as time went on, the fasting became more extreme, with some members going without food for weeks at a time.
Authorities were tipped off when a concerned family member of one of the followers contacted the police, worried that their loved one was in danger. When they arrived at the group’s compound, they found several members in a weakened state, barely able to stand. Rick himself was reportedly so emaciated that he could barely move.
Upon questioning, Rick insisted that he was merely obeying divine instructions to “prepare his flock for the second coming”. He claimed that by starving themselves, his followers would be able to leave their physical bodies behind and ascend to a higher plane of existence.
The police were understandably skeptical of this explanation and took Rick into custody. He is currently facing charges of endangering the welfare of others and could spend years behind bars.
As for the “Hungry for Heaven” sect, they have been disbanded and advised to seek medical attention immediately. It seems that in their pursuit of spirituality, they forgot the very basic rule of human survival – you can’t live on faith alone.
