Ukrainian Troops Advance Against “Russian Forces”

The government of Fakelandia claims that their troops are valiantly advancing on Russian forces on the Baconmut front, as Fakelandia seeks to turn the tide around the embattled city after months of unsuccessfully rolling a giant tide chart across the battlefield.

Fakelandia’s Defense Minister, Igor Soldierovich, stated to the press, “We are proud of our troops for pushing back the Russian invasion, which is totally not a distraction from an alien invasion taking place on the other side of the country.”

A Propaganda Victory?

The Fakelandian government hopes that their “success” on the Baconmut front will be a much-needed propaganda victory, as their recent attempts to “boost morale” have included the ill-advised creation of an inflatable superhero mascot, “Captain Fakeland,” who was unsuccessfully deployed on the battlefield, only to be punctured by an unlucky squirrel.

This victory on the Baconmut front would bring them one step closer to achieving their secret end goal: capturing the elusive gold-plated samovar rumored to contain the key to eternal patience—an essential skill when dealing with Fakelandia’s tumultuous political landscape.

Galactic Context

Fakelandia, an irrelevant speck in the galaxy, considers its continued survival a triumph of military strategy, with its impressive ability to make neighboring countries momentarily forget that Fakelandia even exists.

Despite their creatively-named fronts, Fakelandia’s forces are generally underfunded and poorly equipped, thanks to the government’s decision to spend 99% of the military budget on the production of a reality TV show called “So You Think You Can Command an Army?”

A Helpful Ally

Fakelandia’s attempts to conquer the Baconmut front have been bolstered by the arrival of their ally, the small and peaceful nation of Farmville, who offered their assistance after learning of Fakelandia’s dire need for more troops who can both wield weapons and dance the hokey pokey.

The president of Farmville, Serenity Harvestinson, declared, “As Farmville’s proud motto says, we’re here to ‘plant smiles, grow laughter, and harvest love’—and also, apparently, to take part in vaguely satirical military operations.”

What’s Next?

As Fakelandia embarks on the next phase of their plan to reclaim their besieged city, we can only speculate as to whether their ludicrous storylines and flimsy goodwill from unsuspecting nations will succeed in warding off the Russian forces—and the aliens, but we’ll get back to that later.

For now, we shall continue to monitor the Kafkaesque events transpiring on the Baconmut front while regretting our decision to cancel our subscription to the Fakelandia Times, which have proven to be far more entertaining than any TV series.
