FAKENAME – In a move that shocked absolutely nobody, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) announced yesterday that they’ll be re-introducing Messenger to the Facebook mobile app. It’s been almost a decade since Messenger was removed from Facebook, but apparently the team at Meta have finally realized that communicating with friends and family is, like, a pretty important thing to do on Facebook.
“We’re really excited to bring Messenger back to Facebook,” said Meta CEO Mark Not Zuckerberg. “We’ve been working diligently on this for years, and we think our users are really going to appreciate having the ability to chat with their friends on Facebook again.”
Some have speculated that Messenger’s return to Facebook is an attempt by Meta to compete with other messaging apps like WhatsApp and iMessage. But Not Zuckerberg insists that’s not the case.
“We’re not trying to compete with anyone,” he said. “We just realized that Messenger is a pretty cool feature, and we think our users will enjoy having it back.”
Of course, not everyone is thrilled with the return of Messenger. Fakename user Jane Smith said she doesn’t plan on using it.
“I already have enough messaging apps on my phone,” she said. “I don’t need another one. Plus, all of my friends and family are already on WhatsApp, so why would I use Messenger?”
But hey, at least now we’ll be able to send our Facebook friends funny GIFs and memes without having to switch to another app. Progress!
