In a shocking turn of events, the average sale of new cars has been found to be 8.8% above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. This means that even though buyers are paying less than a year ago, they’re still getting ripped off!
“I always knew car dealers were slimy, but this is ridiculous,” said Jane, a recent car buyer who wished to remain anonymous. “I thought I was getting a good deal, but turns out I was just another sucker.”
To add insult to injury, dealerships have been caught using sneaky tactics to make even more money off their unsuspecting customers. Some have been caught using the old “bait and switch” technique, where they advertise a car at a low price, only to switch it out for a more expensive model once the customer arrives.
“They got me good,” said Tom, another victim of the car dealership scam. “I thought I was getting a great deal on a new car, but when I got there, they tried to sell me a luxury model for twice the price!”
Experts say that there’s really no way to avoid getting ripped off when buying a new car. The best thing you can do is to bring a friend who’s good at negotiating, or just buy a used car instead.
“It’s a shame that car dealerships can’t just be honest and transparent,” said Sarah, a consumer advocate. “But until that happens, it’s up to us as consumers to be on our guard and watch out for these scams.”
