Breaking News: Government Confirms Borrowing Money is Like Borrowing Sugar from a Neighbor
In a recent press conference, the government attempted to explain how borrowing money works and when it needs to be paid back. Unfortunately for them, the explanation didn’t make much sense.
According to Finance Minister, Mr. McJingles, when the government needs money, they ask to borrow it from other countries, just like borrowing sugar from your neighbor. The government promises to pay back the money with interest, just like paying back the sugar with a cup of sugar in return.
However, when asked how the government plans on paying back the trillions of dollars they’ve borrowed, Mr. McJingles simply replied, “Uh, we’ll figure it out later.”
Many citizens have expressed concern with this borrowing system, likening it to borrowing money for a cup of coffee and then never paying it back. Others have suggested that maybe the government should just start a bake sale instead.
In an attempt to reassure the public, President Fluffernutter stated, “We promise to be responsible borrowers and pay back all our debts…eventually.”
We’ll see how that goes.
