In an effort to combat anti-social behavior, the town council of Pleasantville has identified a new target: the use of nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas.
“It’s simply unacceptable for people to be walking around with balloons full of gas and giggling uncontrollably,” stated Mayor McJolly. “It’s a public nuisance and we will not stand for it.”
The police department has been instructed to confiscate any and all canisters of nitrous oxide found in the possession of citizens. In addition, they have been given the authority to administer tickle tests to suspected users in order to confirm their laughing gas usage.
Citizens of Pleasantville were shocked by the new policy, with many taking to social media to express their outrage.
“This is ridiculous!” tweeted local resident Jenna Playful. “What’s next, banning whoopee cushions and prank calls?”
Others, however, saw the humor in the situation and have started selling “laughing gas-proof” balloons.
“I’ve got the solution to this crackdown,” said local entrepreneur Benny Silly. “My balloons are made from a special material that cannot be penetrated by nitrous oxide. It’s perfectly legal and hilarious!”
Only time will tell if Mayor McJolly and the Pleasantville city council will reconsider their stance on nitrous oxide. But for now, the citizens of Pleasantville will have to contain their laughter to more socially acceptable activities, like watching reruns of America’s Funniest Home Videos.
