In a surprising turn of events, the government has announced that they borrowed significantly less than expected in the year 2022-23. Instead of the projected amount of £200bn, they managed to scrape by with just £139.2bn.
Experts are baffled by how the government managed to achieve this impressive feat. Rumors have been circulating that they resorted to some unusual cost-cutting measures, such as replacing traditional office equipment with cheaper alternatives.
One anonymous source claimed to have witnessed Chancellor of the Exchequer, John Smith, using a potato as a computer mouse during a budget meeting. Apparently, he justified this decision by saying, “It’s more sustainable, and it doesn’t cost a penny!”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been celebrating the success by organizing various ridiculous stunts. He was spotted riding a unicycle down Downing Street, shouting, “We did it, lads! We earned some extra pocket money for the country!”
Of course, not everyone is convinced by this victory. Opposition leader, Jeremy Corbyn, pointed out that the government still borrowed a staggering amount of money. He suggested that they could have used that money to fund public services or invest in renewable energy.
But for now, the government seems content with their achievement. They are reportedly planning to use the extra few billion to fund a national “Carry On Brexit” movie franchise. Because who needs healthcare or education when you have thinly-veiled innuendos and slapstick humor?
